Source of Madness is a 2D roguelite action game developed by Carry Castle and published by Thunderful. You'll play as an Acolyte, exploring the dark Loam Lands with a Lovecraft-inspired design, where everything—from terrain to monsters—is randomly generated by AI.
WELCOME TO SOURCE OF MADNESS
At its core, Source of Madness is a roguelike side-scroller. Players step into the role of Acolytes—mysterious seekers venturing deeper into the Loam Lands to uncover hidden truths. Each run is different, and death is an expected part of progress.
Combat is fast, chaotic, and enhanced by a deep magic system. Players can combine spells and abilities to craft their own playstyle, from hurling fireballs to summoning otherworldly powers. Enemies, generated with the help of AI, mutate into bizarre, otherworldly shapes that keep combat tense and unpredictable.
As in many roguelikes, progression comes through unlocking new classes, abilities, and equipment between runs, giving players the tools to push further into the madness.
Themes and Storytelling
True to its Lovecraftian roots, this game doesn’t present a straightforward narrative. Instead, it offers fragments of lore scattered through the world. Players are encouraged to piece together the mysteries of the Loam Lands, its gods, and the origins of the abominations they face. The feeling of insignificance in the face of vast, incomprehensible forces is central to the experience.
